Eritrea Festival 2014 in Frankfurt Highly Expected to be Landmark in the Struggle for Change & Democratization

Being organized under the slogan, “We Struggle for a Constitutional State and Social Justice”, the Eritrea Festival 2014 in Frankfurt is widely expected to be an event that adds momentum to the ongoing struggle for a positive change in Eritrea.

The preparatory committee promises that this year’s Eritrea Festival, scheduled for 8 and 10 August 2014, will be a forum for serious dialogue and discussion and useful exchange of ideas for restructuring effective tools for the struggle and the inevitable success of all the forces striving to build a state abiding by the rule of law and promoting social justice for its people.

In particular, the two events programmed for Friday and Saturday will dwell upon very important national issues that will require the participation of all Festival attendants coming from many parts of the world.

Festival participants will not only learn more about how it was in Sinai for our compatriot victims of human trafficking from the mouth the right man, Dr. Hamdy Al Azazy of Al-Arish in Sinai, but also discuss the work ahead to dislodge the dictatorship and envision the destiny, the collective future that we wish to build in a democratic state A/Rahman Sayed (Bohashem), Festival Panel Moderator

On Friday, 8 August, the Eritrean National Democratic Forces (ENDF) shall hold an important seminar whose central theme will be the Pretoria Statement of the workshop that was organized this year by the Eritrean Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (EMDHR) which is itself an ENDF member. All interested Eritreans struggling for democratic change and justice in Eritrea are welcome to attend the ENDF seminar.

Presenters at the seminar, other than ENDF’s Abdurahman Sayed and Assefaw Berhe, will include Ambassador Andebrahan Weldegiorgis, leadership member of Medrek (Forum for National Dialogue; Tesfalem Araya, foreign relations head of EMDHR; and representatives of other civil society movements like Eritrean Movement for Change (EMC) and Eritrean Youth Solidarity for Change (EYSC).

The Pretoria Statement has been endorsed by ENDF members that include national figures like former Eritrean diplomat Humad Kullu, the EPDP, EMDHR and young freedom fighters like Muna Abdu of UK. The Friday seminar aims to promote the important conclusions reached at the Pretoria Workshop.

On Saturday, 9 August, invited speakers, representing political and civil society organizations, shall make their presentations and later in the day be part of the Festival Panel discussion on the following major concerns of all Eritreans:

  • The question of unity for joint action by Eritrean opposition forces
  • The causes and possible immediate remedies of the ongoing social breakdown in Eritrea, and the frightening dispersal of the young generation
  • How we can help in making the Eritrean opposition media of better service to the people’s cause for positive change
  • Other issues to be raised by the Panel Moderator.

Mr. Abdurahman Sayed (Bohashem) of the ENDF Coordinating Committee has been designated to be the moderator of the Festival Panel on Saturday.
