EPDP Sub-Zone, Germany, Holds Successful Congress in Frankfurt

The EPDP sub-zone of Germany, which consists of three active branches in southern, central and northern parts of the country, held its third congress on 14 October in Frankfurt. Taking part in the congress were elected delegates of each branch and the outgoing leaderships of the three branches as well as of the Germany Sub-zone.

The opening session was addressed by EPDP-Europe Zone chairman, Mr. Isaac Woldemariam, and the Germany Sub-Zone chairman, Mr. Tesfamariam Kibreab. Both speakers referred to the congress slogan and underlined the importance of redoubling  efforts to further strengthen the EPDP as one of Eritrea's trusted instruments in forging a better tomorrow. 

Per the congress agenda, each leadership of the three branch in Germany presented its activity reports, which reflected quite satisfactory achievements in various fields of endeavours.  one glaring good instance of additional efforts by the branches was their involvement in assisting in the integration of non-party members like newly arrived Eritrean refugees. For example, EPDP branch members in northern Germany have been actively helping young Eritreans in organizing sporting groups. It was also made known that the branches implements most of the action plans given them by the Germany Sub-Zone leadership. A special auditing team formed by the Sub-Zone also confirmed the correctness of reports presented at the congress.

The congress continued its deliberations by an elected three-person committee. At the end of the discussions on past reports and current situation evaluations, the congress participants outlined major activities which should be included in new action plans of the branches in Germany.  The congress also voted on nine candidates for the future leadership of the Sub-Zone of whom five were elected to lead the Sub-Zone with two reserve members, who also work closely with Sub-Zone leadership in implementing party programmes.

Before concluding its session, the EPDP Germany Sub-Zone Congress commended all members of the three branches for their unflinching stand in defence of their party constitution and the legitimate party leadership. The congress reaffirmed its full support to the documents of the March 2017 All-Europe Conference in Frankfurt. Likewise, it gave its resounding support to the 8th Regular Meeting of the EPDP Central Council for its right decision preceding approach in trying to resolve the  crisis created by a some members of the former zone leadership in North America. The congress concluded by once again stressing the importance of respecting the rule of law on the bases of adopted party rules and structures.
