Opened by welcoming remarks of the out-going branch chairman, Dr. Habtemichael Tekle, the EPDP Branch-1 annual congress heard a moving solidarity message sent by the All-Europe Zone chairman, Mr. Ishaq Woldemariam.
EPDP Branch-2 chairman, Mr. Zehaie Keleta, who attended the congress at observer-level also presented an inspirational speech in which he recounted the challenges being faced by the Eritrean people and their struggle for a better future and urged the Uppsala congress participants to counter those challenges with redoubled resolve to win.
The branch annual congress, which went on for four hours, exhaustively discussed political, organizational and financial issues related to the branch and its performances in each sector of activity. The congress also took time to discuss the effective ways in implementing future programme of action and the paramount importance of each member to fully understand the party's political programme and the constitution. Also discussed and applauded was the renewed attention being given by the EPDP to joint work with sister organizations in the opposition camp.
Likewise, the Uppsala congress of EPDP Branch-1 frowned upon misguided elements bent at unnecessary mud-slinging on this worthy party and its committed and steadfast leadership and reaffirmed branch members' principled support to the EPDP Central Council and the Executive Committee.
The annual Branch-1 Congress was concluded after adopting the future action plan and electing a new branch leadership for a one-year term.
