EPDP Central Council member Mohammed Asselo, who has been a long-time freedom fighter, has passed away in the early hours of 15 April 2018 after having being hospitalized for heart complaints. Born in 1960 in Gash-Setit, he joined the Eritrean Liberation Front (ELF) in 1976. After receiving military training and political courses, he served in Gash-Setit province as an effective political cadre among the people in the Gash region. His broad nationalist outlook was one of his highly commendable hallmarks.

His uninterrupted commitment in the national liberation fight and the still ongoing struggle for democratic Eritrea had him continue his services in the ELF, in the ELF-Revolutionary Council, in the Eritrean People's Party (EPP), and since 2010 in the EPDP.

Survived by his wife and two children, Martyr Mohammed Asselo was well versed in speaking and writing in three languages (Kunama, Arabic and Tigrigna).

His martyrdom is no doubt  big loss to his family, to the EPDP and in general to the Eritrean people. On behalf of the EPDP leadership and members, I convey our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and all comrades-in-struggle. May his soul rest in peace.

Menghesteab Asmerom,

EPDP Chairman, 16 April 2018
